Jump Start Your Dancing!

Now we are into the Holidays! Wow, and it seems as if it’s here so quickly! Does it seem as if time truly flies by to you? For me, it seems as if just yesterday we were looking for new studio spaces (February 7, 2013) and now we are open in a beautiful new Arthur Murray Dance Center in the heart of Santa Monica!  Yes, time moves quickly.  It all seemed to happen too fast, yet I felt that things were moving too slowly at the same time!

 Jump-Start-Your-Spark 11-29-13

What I have learned is that most things happen in the right time. Now that right time might be when the most wonderful new person happens to walk in our front door and become a student or to the workman who needed 15 phone calls to come in. Patience is a virtue, and one that I desire to have more of, yet I have found that persistence is truly the way to go and keeping a smile and a song in my heart.  That has taken me a long way in this great journey.

How can you Jump-Start your dancing?  First, take a minute and dream of what you want.  We dreamed of having a new studio and starting our own business, and here we are.  Take your dream and do two things; First, tell someone your dream, then Secondly, write it down in clear terms with a date of competition in mind.

The self-help books always use to bother me when they said, write out your goals.  Let me tell you, in this journey I have had to write out our dream as a formal Business Plan many, many times.  To get our location and backing, I had to write many letters stating what we wanted to do and when and how we planned to realized our dreams.  Now, I believe in the real world in writing out your goals.  And get this, you’ll have to write them over and over and update them. Lucky I write a lot of blogs and am constantly writing dreams into realities!

Write out “I want to be a great, exciting dancer” “I want to be in great health and great shape” “I want to feel young and limber” “I want others to admire me and watch me dance” “I want to overcome stress and shyness and meet new friends”. The list many go on and on and each time you write you will become stronger and more sure of your goals. Then, take action with your dream sheet!  First, point your browser to the Arthur Murray Dance Center of Santa Monica and peruse our great site.  Then, pick up the phone, call us and make an appointment.  You’ll be excited and elated, and you’ll be tempted to cancel the appointment, but don’t do it.  When we call you to confirm your lesson, say “YES, I’ll be there!” and show up. Your whole life will change.

Live the Life you've imagined 11-29-13

When you come into your first Arthur Murray Dance Center wherever it may be, you will be greeted by friendly professionals who will know your dancing needs and make you feel welcome and they’ll take good care of you.  The moment you take the dance floor with your fantastic teacher, the magic will begin. Time will fly, worries will disappear, health will be restored, and hope renewed.  You will begin your dancing journey with a starter program and perhaps all the way to the Bronze Medalist Program.  Who knows, you may dance a spotlight someday or even compete!

Live your dreams.  It will try you, test you, mold you, and form you into a new person.  The first step is taking action and following through with your dream until you are living in a new reality. This is my dream come true and I am living it. I am the example of making a wish, a dream, a hope, a desire, all come true. You can do it too, I know that you can.  I love you and am proud of you, so get up…and boogie!

Giving Thanks!

Thank you. Thank you to all of you who have made our dreams come true opening up the new Santa Monica Arthur Murray Dance Center. Thanks to Robert and Christy Melgoza who gave us five wonderful years of training and preparation and guidance. Thanks to all our coaches, friends, mentors and leaders who guided us to today.

Thanks for allHappy Thanksgiving 2013 the wonderful people who helped build out our space. I can’t lift a hammer, but I can hammer out a mean Waltz Routine, or type out a blog, or plan a Showcase Spectacular. But for the paint and nails, keep me away from it all. Our team was great (thank goodness!)

We are preparing for a wonderful period of growth in our new studio. We have almost 100 years of training between Gabriela Young, Joel Rieck, and myself. We have a beautiful facility and we are the in the best part of Santa Monica.

For the dancing, we set the highest standards in styling and technique, from Night Club social dancing all the way to Championship Competition. We are offering the best techniques in footwork, top line and frame, and the art of dance. We will provide every aspect of training to make any student a wonderful dancer.

For the fun part, wow, we have great themed parties, exciting group classes, and knock-em-dead private lessons. Our whole staff puts their hearts into making each lesson fun, exciting, and a life-changing experience. Our studio has a “Hum” as Mr. Jacques DeBeve says. You can just feel the positive vibes in the air.

Our studio opens up right on Broadway and we often leave our doors open. Many new visitors walk in and say how open and welcome the studio feels. Our goal is Hospitality and that is the way we will run our Dance Center and serve the City of Santa Monica.

What thanks do I have personally for the studio? Well, I will be able to live out the rest of my life dancing near my home. I figure I have another 25 to 30 years of dancing in me, and I have a lovely place to dance and grow and teach, all a mile from my home. I am so thankful for having my dream come true of living, worshiping, and dancing all in the Great City of Santa Monica. I love being a part of the pulse of the city.

How can you benefit from our new studio? First, come in for a lesson and experience the “vibe” and “hum” of excitement that is here. You will be dancing in a studio of vision and dreams come true! We will make sure you have a wonderful time and we’ll invite you to bring in your friends.

As for our Guest Program, we will become the #1 Guest referral studio in the World for Arthur Murray. Just give us a little bit of time and our happy students will be bringing in their friends and telling them about the amazing Arthur Murray Experience. Our programs begin with the basics all the way up to the Hobby Level of dancing.

Thanksgiving Blessings 2013

Dear Gaby

An advice column for dancers

Stepping out of your comfort zone can offer a sense of daring to any venture. And when you find success on the other side of the risk, your confidence will grow. So put a little adventure in your life and try a new dance! Could it be the Cha Cha Cha? Try letting this crazy rhythm take over your feet and before you know it, you’ll be doing the Cha Cha Cha on New Year’s Eve…Perhaps on the table tops!

So today when you step beyond your comfort zone into the unknown, remember how daring you truly are and let your confidence move you forward to dance…1 2 Cha Cha Cha!

Thank You,

Gabriela Young

Being Truly Thankful!

My last blog was October 18th. We did

Studio Sign 11-6-13not have much furniture, a sign, or even our web site. Now we are almost done with the build out and now our new studio is so beautiful!

We are living our dream each day as many new students walk in the door and ask to take lessons.  The atmosphere of the studio is welcoming and our whole philosophy is hospitality to everyone!

We have the most wonderful teachers who are excited to be teaching and sharing their knowledge and love of dance with our great city of Santa Monica.  It is so beautiful here as we are in the heart of the city in our wonderful location just blocks from the ocean. We have great parking in an elegant building.

During most days, we leave our front and back doors open to let the fresh ocean breezes come through our studio.  The Santa Monica Arthur Murray Dance Center is so gorgeous that many come in just to see the ballroom, have a cup of coffee, and then continue on to schedule their first lessons.

We have already had four guests of friends who have booked their first lesson.  Our goal is to be the number one Guest studio for Arthur Murray in the world…and we’ll do it!

You can feel the magic of dance as you walk through our amazing front lobby area into the attractive ballroom with our new beech hardwood floor and magnificent new sound system.  The music is just perfect and never to loud and it’s tuned to the room for perfect acoustics.

We are so proud to be Arthur Murray Franchisees and proud to be a part of the Great City of Santa Monica.  Please like us on Facebook at Arthur Murray Santa Monica, and then continue to visit our web site at www.DancingSantaMonica.com for studio updates and upcoming events.

How will YOU benefit from all of this?  Well, we have the state of the art system of teaching and the best teachers in the world to show you the moves.  If you’re a computer nut, our FREE WIFI is 500/75, and we give you the key to use while you are in the studio before or after your lessons.  If you’re not into computers, come in and have a cup of coffee or tea, relax, practice in our ballroom and make yourself at home.  We have a café area and a kitchen so you can come and spend the day with us!

Our Ballroom 11-5-13What about the dancing in Santa Monica?  Well, we have Miss Gabriela Young as one of our owners and she is on the National Dance Board for Arthur Murray International, Inc.  She is one of the top coaches and judges in the world and is at the helm of the dance standard in our school.

Our other franchisee, Mr. Joel Rieck, is our studio supervisor and in charge of all the advanced teaching department and all studio events.  He is a certified dancer with Arthur Murray and had been successful in every area of the Arthur Murray Dance World! He is an amazing choreographer and will put the magic into anyone’s routine!

As for me, the last 37 years with Arthur Murray have flown by, and now I’m happy, happy, happy in my new studio home!

Thank You!
