No 8: Changing Lives through Dancing
By David Earl Woodbury
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is a beauty, admire it.
Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a
duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise,
fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it.
Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life
is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is life, fight
for it! — Mother Teresa (1910-1997) Albanian Missionary
Happy Valentine’s Day! What a wonderful day at Arthur Murray Dance Center. Our school is decorated with hearts, balloons, sweet treats, and the excitement of dancing. Tonight is our Sweetheart’s Guest Open House and we are celebrating the Romance of Dance. Our school is a great place if you are with a special someone, or if that special person is just you. Everyone is welcome here.
I must address something. Two years ago I began this blog as Health and Fitness through Dancing and I lost 45 pounds through exercise, diet, and a healthy life style. Well, today I went to the doctor for the first time in 2 years and I have high blood pressure and I weighed 233! Ouch! Eating all those Jersey Mike’s sandwiches during the build out of the new studio just threw weight on me. The pressures and obligations of starting a new business from scratch stressed me out and I’m supposedly the example of health and fitness for Arthur Murray!
So, I’m on a healthy path again and our new studio is growing. My doctor is giving me sustainable advice for healthy living and I am ready and will to follow his guidance. I am now ready to lead our students and staff with the example of a healthy life style through dancing, diet, exercise, and making good life choices.
Steve Platt once told me that there are two typed of people, victims and those who are accountable. I am a responsible person. I do not blame anyone else for my health and my current condition. Yet, I told my doctor that I had put everything I had into my new business and I was giving it 100% of my energy and passion. He said he was proud of me and really made me feel good.
Sometimes we truly have to sacrifice for what we want in our lives. We must give our all and much more beyond that to make the big dreams come true! If you are not happy in your life, or you feel trapped in your current situation, or you are just not moving forward, grab a shooting star and make your dreams come true.
Will it be easy, no. Fulfilling, YES! Go make a difference and live the life you were meant to live!
Thank you,
